The latest occupational employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) put May 2021 employment numbers for medical transcriptionists at nearly 56,000. A review of BLS data reveals the Far Western U.S. to be one of the top pay regions in the nation for medical transcriptionists. Every state in the region recorded medical transcriptionist annual mean wage levels that were at or above the national average for the profession. Moreover, the region was home to three of the top 10 states in the nation for medical transcriptionist annual mean wages.
