Texas Children's Hospital, with 724 beds, is the largest children's hospital in the country. Recently, U.S. News ranked it the top children's hospital for heart care, and among the top 5 in seven other specialty areas including kidney and lung care. Since TCH opened in the Texas Medical Center in 1954, it has grown to include obstetrics at the Pavilion for Women, two satellite hospitals in Houston, and medical services soon to be expanded into a free-standing hospital in Austin.

Affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital is conducting 800 active clinical trials, has over 1,000 research projects, and 800,000+ square feet of laboratory space. Its Children's Nutrition Research Center and the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute conduct highly specialized pediatric research.
