Data recently made public by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows more than 110,000 surgical technologists working in the United States as of May 2023. With just over 4,600 surgical technologists employed, the five-state Rocky Mountain region accounted for about 4% of surgical technologist employment in the United States. Nearly half of the entire region's surgical technologists were in Colorado, which ranked in the upper quartile of states with an average surgical technologist annual mean wage in excess of $65,000, more than 10% higher than the national average. However, most other states in the region had surgical technologist annual mean wage levels below the national average. From May 2023 BLS data, here is a state level look at surgical technologist pay in the Rocky Mountain region:
