Health services managers, ranging from front-line supervisors to chief executives, play a key role in maximizing the operational effectiveness of a wide variety of healthcare businesses, including hospitals, physicians' offices, outpatient care centers, skilled nursing facilities, and home health care service providers. There were just over 402,000 health service management jobs in the U.S. as of May 2020 according to data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). As of May 2020, more than 61,000 health services management jobs were in the twelve-state Southeast region. In nine Southeast states the annual mean wage for health services managers was in excess of $100,000. Nevertheless, on a relative basis health service management jobs in the Southeast pay less than in other regions of the country. Only two Southeast states, North Carolina and Virginia, had annual mean wage levels for health service managers that ranked among the upper half of all states.
