Per the most recent occupational employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the number of family medicine physicians employed in the United States came in at more than 104,000 as of May 2024. Over 2,250 family medicine physicians were employed at that time in the five-state Rocky Mountain region. BLS data indicates that the region performed relatively well in terms of family physician compensation. Idaho ranked first nationally for annual mean wages among family medicine physicians, while all other states in the region with available data reported wage levels at or above the national average. However, due to technical issues during data collection, Colorado’s data could not be reported.
