The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently published May 2020 statistics that reported that over 176,000 healthcare social workers (HSWs) were employed in the United States. Nearly 8.5% of those HSW jobs were in the six-state New England region. BLS data further revealed New England to be a relatively good one for healthcare social worker pay. Although the annual mean wage for healthcare social workers in Maine and Vermont were below the national average, more than 90% of HSWs in the region lived in a state where the HSW annual mean wage level topped that average. Moreover, three New England states ranked among the ten best states in the nation for healthcare social worker annual mean wages.
