U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data released earlier this summer indicated that, as of May 2020, there were over 176,000 healthcare social workers (HSWs) employed in the United States. The five-state Rocky Mountain region accounted for about 5,700 of those health care social worker jobs. BLS data reveals the Rocky Mountain region to be a generally below average one for healthcare social worker pay. Although Utah and Wyoming rank among the twelve best states nationally for health care social worker annual mean wages, over 75% of the region's health care social workers live in states where the HSW annual mean wage runs below the national average of $60,470.
