Recently released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reveals that, as of May 2020, there were just over 98,000 family medicine physicians employed in the United States. More than 11,000 of those employed as family medicine physicians lived in the five-state Mid-East region of the country. BLS data reveals a wide pay disparity for Mid-East region family medicine physicians. Practitioners in New York and the District of Columbia live in two of the ten worst states for family medicine physician annual mean wages. However, practitioners New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania earn, on average, annual mean wages that top the national average. An examination of May 2020 data from the BLS tells us the following about family medicine physician pay in the U.S. Mid-East region:
