The methodology used by CMS involves collecting patient responses to questions about their recent hospital stays, then combining that information into a single, all-encompassing patient satisfaction rating on a 1 to 5-star scale, with five stars being the top score on the scale. As of February 7, 2026, only four Arizona hospitals earned five-stars on CMS patient surveys. This includes two hospitals in the state that were also rated five-stars for the quality-of-care in a separate CMS quality analysis.
