The most recent occupational employment numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimated that over 180,500 medical records specialists were employed in the U.S. as of May 2021. With nearly 6,200 medical records specialists employed at that time, the five-state Rocky Mountain region accounted for about 3.4% of medical records specialist employment in the United States. BLS data revealed the Rocky Mountain region to be an average one for medical records specialist pay, with nearly 56% of employed medical records specialists in the region living in a state where the annual mean wage for the profession was below the national average.
