More than 58,000 clinical psychologists were employed in the United States as of May 2021 according to the latest occupational employment data available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Nearly 11,400 individuals living in the five-state Great Lakes region were employed as clinical psychologists at that time. As such, the Great Lakes region accounted for just under 20% of all clinical psychologist jobs in the nation. BLS data revealed much disparity in pay levels for clinical psychologists employed in the region. While the annual mean wage for clinical psychologists in Illinois and Ohio topped the nation average for the profession, elsewhere in the region annual pay levels were considerably below average. A further examination of May 2021 BLS data reveals the following state-level details about clinical psychologist pay in the Great Lakes region:
