Earlier this year the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released May 2020 statistics that put nurse practitioner (NP) employment in the U.S. at more than 211,000. The five-state Rocky Mountain region accounted for a little more than 3% of those nurse practitioner jobs in May 2020. NP pay in the region was modestly lower than the national average, although Wyoming ranked among the ten best states in the nation for nurse practitioner annual mean wages. The average NP annual mean wage in every other state in the region was below the national average. A closer examination of May 2020 BLS data shows the following about nurse practitioner pay in the Rocky Mountain region:
