The Best and Worst States for Medical Transcriptionist Pay

There were just over 55,800 medical transcriptionists employed in the U.S. as of May 2021 according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  Medical transcriptionists work in a variety of settings, including within healthcare administrative offices, at physician offices, and in hospitals.  The BLS estimated the national mean salary for medical transcriptionists to be $34,220 annually as of May 2021, with a wide variation in pay from state to state.  According to May 2021 BLS data, these were the ten best and worst states for medical transcriptionist pay:
