Recently released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) put physical therapy (PT) assistant employment at nearly 93,000 as of May 2020. The four-state Southwestern U.S. accounted for approximately 11,700 of those PT assistant jobs. BLS data shows the Southwest to be region of wide contrast for physical therapy assistant pay. Over half the PT assistants in the region live in Texas, which ranked as the third best state in the nation for physical therapy assistant annual mean wages. At the same time, two states in the region, Arizona and New Mexico, ranked nationally among the bottom ten states for PT assistant annual mean wages. A closer look at BLS data from May 2020 shows the following about physical therapy assistant pay in the Southwest region of the U.S.:
