Only 175 hospitals in the U.S. earned national distinction in at least one of the 15 adult specialties examined in the most recent (21-22) U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) rankings of American hospitals. Four New England teaching hospitals were among those hospitals that earned national recognition in at least one adult specialty. The region's preeminent teaching hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, is also a top 5 rated hospital in the country according to the USNWR study. While the New England region is home to multiple teaching hospitals, these four institutions earned the most recognition in the USNWR survey.
