Medical Transcriptionist Pay in the Great Lakes Region

The most current occupational employment figures available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) estimated medical transcriptionist employment at over 55,800 as of May 2021.  At that time, 6,540 medical transcriptionists were estimated by the BLS to be working in the five-state Great Lakes region.  A review of BLS data revealed that, except for Wisconsin, the Great Lakes region was a subpar pay region for medical transcriptionists. In the other four Great Lakes states, the medical transcriptionist annual mean wage level was below the national average for the profession.  Moreover, all four of those states ranked in the bottom third of all states nationally for that medical transcriptionist pay metric, with two of them ranked among the ten worst states in the nation for that pay metric.  A deeper look at BLS data from May 2021 reveals the following state-level details about medical transcriptionist pay in the Great Lakes region:
