In excess of 58,000 clinical psychologists were employed in the U.S. as of May 2021 according to the most current occupational employment figures available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). With just under 9,000 employed clinical psychologists at that time, the Mid-Eastern region of the U.S., which encompasses five states and the District of Columbia, accounted for 15.4% of all clinical psychologist jobs in the country. BLS data revealed much disparity in the region for clinical psychologist pay. Pennsylvania, home to 29% of the region's employed clinical psychologists, ranked in the bottom quartile of all states for clinical psychologist annual mean wages. On the other end of the spectrum, three of the top five states in the country for that pay metric were in the Mid-Eastern U.S. This included New Jersey, which was the top ranked state nationally for clinical psychologist annual mean wages.
