Nearly 96,000 general dentists were employed in the U.S. as of May 2020 according to data published earlier this year by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Just over 13,000 general dentists were employed in the five-state Great Lakes region. For general dentists, the region was among the better paying regions in the country. The annual mean wage for general dentists in four of the five states in the region topped the national average. One of those states was Michigan, which ranked among the ten best states in the nation for general dentist annual mean wages.
