Only 164 hospitals, out of more than 5,000 hospitals in the U.S., earned national recognition in at least one of the 15 adult specialties examined in the most recent (23-24) U.S. News & World Report survey of American hospitals. While several Great Plains region teaching hospitals earned national recognition in at least one adult specialty, only three teaching hospitals in the region earned a top 50 national ranking in five or more adult specialty areas. Two of those hospitals, the Mayo Clinic and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, also earned a spot in the survey's honor roll of the very best hospitals in the nation.
