According to the most current occupational employment data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were over 34,700 chiropractors working in the United States as of May 2020. As of that time, the twelve-state Southeast region of the country was home to over 8,100 employed chiropractors. For chiropractors, pay levels in the region varied widely from state-to-state. Five states in the region ranked among the top 15 states in the nation for chiropractor annual mean wage levels, yet at the same time four Southeastern states ranked among the 15 worst states nationally for the same pay metric. That dichotomy notwithstanding, about 69% of the region's chiropractors lived in a state where the chiropractor annual mean wage level was above the national average. A closer examination of May 2020 BLS data reveals the following details about chiropractor pay in the Southeast U.S.:
