Medicare Skilled Nursing Facility Beds in the Mid-East Region

Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) provide services to over 61 million Americans with Medicare Part A SNF coverage.  Skilled nursing facilities are institutional healthcare providers equipped and staffed to deliver skilled nursing care on a daily basis. SNFs, in most cases, can also deliver skilled rehabilitative care and certain other related services.  Over 15,000 SNFs, having more than 1.5 million beds, were participating in the Medicare program as of calendar year 2019.

In calendar year 2019, the Mid-East region was home to nearly 2,000 SNFs, having over 287,000 beds, who were participating in the Medicare program.  Although the Mid-East states are home to 18.1% of Medicare's SNF beds, about 15.1% of the nation's Medicare Part A enrollees live in the region.  Thus, Medicare enrollees in the region are relatively better served by SNF beds than enrollees in many other parts of the country.  Here is a summary look at Medicare skilled nursing facility beds in the Mid-East region:
