Medicare Skilled Nursing Facility Beds in the Mid-East Region

Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) provide services to over 62 million Americans with Medicare Part A SNF coverage.  Skilled nursing facilities are institutional healthcare providers equipped and staffed to deliver skilled nursing care on a daily basis. SNFs, in most cases, can also deliver skilled rehabilitative care and certain other related services.  Over 15,000 SNFs, having more than 1.58 million beds, were participating in the Medicare program as of the calendar year 2020.

In the calendar year 2020, the Mid-East region was home to 1,940 skilled nursing facilities, having over 286,800 beds, that were participating in the Medicare program.  Although the Mid-East states are home to 18.1% of Medicare's SNF bed capacity, the region accounts for only 15% of the nation's Medicare Part A enrollees.  Thus, Medicare enrollees in the region are relatively better served for SNF beds than enrollees in many other parts of the country.  Here is a summary look at Medicare skilled nursing facility beds in the Mid-East region:
