The Best and Worst States for Clinical Psychologist Pay

Approximately 71,700 clinical psychologists were employed in the U.S. as of May 2023 according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  Employed clinical psychologists work in a variety of settings, including at non-physician medical practices, physician offices, outpatient care centers, and hospitals.  The BLS estimated the national mean salary for clinical psychologists to be $106,600 annually as of May 2023.  BLS data revealed a significant variation in pay from state to state, with employed clinical psychologists in some states earning annual salaries 50% or greater than their peers in other states.  A closer examination of May 2023 BLS annual mean wage data revealed the following to be the ten best and worst states for clinical psychologist pay:
