In 2021, nearly 3,664,300 births were recorded in the United States. The twelve-state Southeastern U.S. region accounted for 951,550 births in 2021, or about 26% of all births in the U.S. that year. With 11.08 births per 1,000 population, the Southeastern U.S. regional birth rate was close to par with the national average birth rate of 11.04 births per 1,000 population. That said, the region's birth rate was heavily influenced by the low birth rate in Florida, the most populated state in the region. Excluding Florida, the region's birth rate was about 3.9% above the national average.
