The most recent occupational employment statistics available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) put medical transcriptionist employment at over 55,800 as of May 2021. The five-state Rocky Mountain region accounted for an estimated 1,560 medical transcriptionist jobs at that time. An examination of BLS data revealed the region to be a generally good one for medical transcriptionist pay. Although Idaho rated as one of the lowest pay states in the nation for medical transcriptionists, all other Rocky Mountain states, which accounted for over 80% of the region's medical transcriptionist employment, recorded an annual mean wage level for the profession that was above the national average. Moreover, Wyoming and Montana recorded two of the highest annual mean wage levels for medical transcriptionists in the country.
