The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) most current occupational employment data shows that, as of May 2022, there were more than 182,000 healthcare social workers (HSWs) employed in the U.S. More than 26,000 of those HSW jobs were in the five-state Great Lakes region of the country. BLS data reveals the Great Lakes region to be a below-average one for HSW pay, as no state in the region featured an annual mean wage level for healthcare social workers that was above the profession's national average of $62,760.
