According to data published earlier this year by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of May 2020 there were more than 34,700 chiropractors employed in the United States. Nearly 6,000 of those employed as chiropractors lived in the five-state Great Lakes region. For chiropractors, pay levels in the region were mixed. About 71% of the region's chiropractors lived in states where the annual mean wage for chiropractors topped the national average. In fact, two states in the region, Ohio and Wisconsin, ranked among the ten best states in the nation for chiropractor annual mean wages. At the other end of the spectrum was Michigan, where the chiropractor annual mean wage level was more than 17% below the national average.
