Data made available by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) earlier this summer revealed that more than 257,000 EMTs (emergency medical technicians) and paramedics were employed in the United States as of May 2020. The U.S. Mid-East region, which encompasses the District of Columbia and five states, accounted for over 47,000 of those EMT and paramedic jobs. In general, the Mid-East region is one of the better regions in the country for EMT and paramedic pay. The District of Columbia and three states in the region ranked among the top eleven states in the nation for EMT/Paramedic annual mean wages.
