According to data recently published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of May 2020 there were more than 315,000 pharmacists employed in the United States. About 44,700 of those employed as pharmacists in the U.S. lived in the five-state Great Lakes region. Generally speaking, the region is among the weaker ones in the nation for pharmacist pay. Although the annual mean wage for pharmacists in Illinois and Wisconsin were modestly above the national average, elsewhere in the region pharmacist pay was below the national average. Moreover, the annual average mean wage for pharmacists in Michigan and Ohio ranked in the bottom quintile nationally.
