In 2020, 602,350 deaths in the United States were attributed to cancer. In the seven-state Great Plains region, cancer accounted for 41,272 deaths in 2020, about 7% of all cancer deaths in the U. S. that year. At 192.1 deaths per 100,000 population, the Great Plains region had a cancer death rate in 2020 that was about 5% above the national average.
